The wellbeing of residents is at the centre of a four-year roadmap for improving health, safety, and resilience.

At its October meeting Corangamite Shire Council adopted the 'Healthy Well Corangamite 2025–2029 Plan', its Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.

Mayor Kate Makin said the plan was shaped by more than 200 engagements with residents, community groups and service providers, and local data analysis.

"We heard from the community that transport, costs, digital access, and service availability needed improvement.

"On the upside, volunteering, sport participation and strong community spirit.

"On the down side, Corangamite has higher rates of chronic disease, mental illness, and family violence compared to state averages."

Cr Makin said the plan demonstrates Council's commitment to creating healthier, more connected communities.

"This is about making healthy choices easier for everyone—whether that's feeling safe, accessing services, staying active, or being prepared for emergencies. We thank all residents and partners who contributed their ideas and insights."

The Plan's vision is simple yet powerful: "Corangamite is a thriving, healthy, fully interconnected community for people of all ages."

To achieve this, the Plan focuses on four key priorities:

  • Strengthen community safety and prevent harm – reducing family violence, promoting respectful relationships, and creating safer public spaces.
  • Support healthy eating and active living – improving food access and affordability, and expanding inclusive recreation opportunities.
  • Promote equity, inclusion and access to health and wellbeing services – removing barriers such as transport and digital divide, and improving service navigation.
  • Build resilience against adverse environmental and weather impacts – preparing for floods, fires, and heatwaves, and strengthening local food systems.

Council will work closely with the Healthy Well Corangamite Leadership Group to deliver annual action plans and monitor progress.
