Defence is trialling a relocatable vehicle wash point adapted by Australian mining industry experts.
Specialist company Enviroconcepts custom engineered the wash point for vehicles coming off exercise.
The vehicles activate five stages of high-pressure rinse by simply driving through the wash point.
The wash point opened at Queensland's Mount Stuart Training Area on December 10, 2025.
Duncan Powrie from the Army Estate Capability Program proposed the trial and said it was a rapid solution compared to older systems.
"Traditional, fixed-infrastructure wash points take upwards of two years for design and construction - we delivered this wash point in just four months, at a fraction of the cost," Mr Powrie said.
The wash point is designed for swift setup and relocation to meet exercise priorities.
Its modular design allows for scalability, while integrated water recycling and sediment filtration systems ensure compliance with environmental standards.
SO1 Environmental Security in Army Headquarters, Lieutenant Colonel Travis Collins, said Mount Stuart was chosen for the trial to mitigate biosecurity risks from the invasive yellow crazy ant that is threatening native wildlife.
"Its portability means we can position it where it's needed most, reducing downtime and improving operational flexibility," Lieutenant Colonel Collins said.
