Heidelberg West: Man Killed by Own Car in Hit-Run

A 68-year-old man has died in hospital after he was struck by his own vehicle as he tried to stop a thief from stealing his car in Heidelberg West last month.

Detectives will allege a 51-year-old woman drove off in the man's Honda CRV from outside his Blackwood Parade address about 7.30pm on 1 August.

It's alleged the Heidelberg West woman struck the man as she fled the scene.

The Heidelberg West man was taken to hospital however died as a result of his injuries overnight.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives charged the alleged driver with dangerous driving cause serious injury, theft of a motor vehicle, fail to stop, fail to render assistance and unlicenced driving on 7 August.

Investigators will now consider whether the charges will be upgraded.

The woman is due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 17 November.
