Help be Voice for those affected by breast cancer and Light Up Night for annual Pink Lady Match

Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA)

The annual Pink Lady Match will 'light up the night' in a top of the table clash between Melbourne and Brisbane at the MCG on Thursday 23 June.

Primetime at 7.20 pm AEST on Channel 7, and in front of a crowd for the first time in three years, it will be a "must watch" match as Melbourne players pull on their pink socks to support Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) and Australians affected by breast cancer. The umpires will also don pink wrist bands and wave pink flags in a symbol of their support.

The Demons will run through a pink and blue Guard of Honour, led by breast cancer survivor and BCNA founding board member, Raelene Boyle AM. The Guard of Honour will be made up of both women and men breast cancer survivors and those undergoing treatment, as well as family members who have lost loved ones.

BCNA's Pink Lady Match Ambassador, Nicole Armstrong, was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer last year during a COVID lockdown. The mother of three has survived a stroke and is also a heart transplant recipient – hers is a story of resilience and gratitude. Nicole is a lifelong Dees fan and will represent all Australians affected by breast cancer when she delivers the match ball.

The night will kick off with a performance by this year's winner of the #1 entertainment program, The Voice. Lachie Gill performed his way to victory during the show and launched his debut single 'Wasted Time'. Before turning to music, Lachie played VFL for local footy clubs Casey and Frankston Dolphins and when he takes the stage at the MCG on Thursday night it will be a dream come true.

The Pink Lady Bay will include hundreds of BCNA supporters to watch the blockbuster, of course wearing BCNA's new PLAY4BCNA pink beanies to keep warm, and match-goers can visit the Mini Field of Women outside the ground to honour those diagnosed with and lost to breast cancer.

Those who can't make it to the match this year, can help light up the night by buying a place in the virtual Pink Lady, powered by Red Energy, at pinkladymatch.com.au – beanies can be purchased online too.

This year it is predicted that 20,741 Australians will be diagnosed with breast cancer, 57 every day. Help BCNA continue to provide information and support through every stage of someone's treatment and care by getting involved in this year's Pink Lady Match.
