We're calling on the Geelong West community to give feedback on a draft concept plan for the Geelong West Community Hub.
The Geelong West Neighbourhood House received a Community Infrastructure Grant from the City to undertake concept planning for the hub.
The City is working closely with the Geelong West Neighbourhood House to develop a draft concept plan.
While funding for construction is not currently available, this concept plan represents a vision for what could be possible.
The concept plan is centred on improving the integration of the hub with the park, reconfiguring the internal spaces to allow more programs to be run concurrently and meeting growing local demand.
Draft concept plan features:
- Reconfiguration of the internal space to deliver a hallway, making it easier for multiple programs to operate at once.
- Repurpose the stage into a multipurpose room and storeroom.
- Reconfiguration of the rear entry, office, meeting room and kitchen to make the rear entry more inviting and create more useable spaces.
- Provide a new deck and door openings to the eastern side of the building, to improve connections to West Park.
- Reconfiguration of carparking at the rear of the building to provide complaint disabled parking.
- Creation of more user-friendly bathroom spaces.
Community input will help make sure the concept plan reflects the values, aspirations and priorities of those who use and rely on the space. The insights collected from the engagement will be used to finalise the concept plan.
Visit the Have Your Say page until 5.00pm Wednesday 3 December to have you say on the plan.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM:
We want to know whether the proposed concept plan reflects what you value in a community hub.If there's anything on the plan that you feel is missing or could be improved, please let us know. We want to make sure the design elements serve your needs.
The goal is to make sure that the final design reflects local aspirations such as accessibility, sustainability, flexible spaces and cultural inclusion.
The City is pleased to work closely with the Geelong West Neighbourhood House to prepare and share the concept plan.
