Help Shape Future Of Pet Management In Stonnington

Got a dog you walk daily? A cat who rules your house? Or just enjoy living in a pet-friendly neighbourhood?

We want to hear from you.

The City of Stonnington is preparing its Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026–2029, and your input will help shape how we care for and manage dogs and cats in our community over the next four years.

This plan is about more than pets; it's about people too. It sets out how we promote responsible ownership and support safety.

It ensures everyone, from pet owners to neighbours, can enjoy our shared spaces.

Whether you're a proud pet parent, a local parkgoer or simply want less barking on your street, your voice matters.

The plan covers:

  • promoting and encouraging responsible pet ownership

  • ensuring that people comply with laws, regulations and legislation

  • minimising risk of attacks by dogs on people and animals

  • addressing over-population and high euthanasia rates for dogs and cats

  • minimising the potential for dogs and cats to create a nuisance

  • effectively identifying all dangerous, menacing and restricted breed dogs

  • encouraging registration and identification of dogs and cats.

All Victorian councils must update their plan every four years under the Domestic Animals Act 1994. Now it's our turn and we want your ideas, concerns and experiences to help guide the next version.

Take a few minutes to complete our quick online survey here to have your say by Monday, 1 September 2025.

You can also drop by one of our pop-up feedback sessions to view the plan in person.
