Help shape future of Seymour's Anzac Avenue

Mitchell Shire Council is seeking community input on a streetscape masterplan for the full length of Anzac Avenue, from the railway underpass to Kobyboyn Road.

This project was seeded by the community as a key priority during the Seymour Revitalisation community engagement process.

The scope of the project has been extended from Delatite Road to Kobyboyn Road as a result of the Round 1 consultation with stakeholders and the community in September and October 2022.

The masterplan will primarily seek to develop a strategy to reinstate an 'Avenue of Honour' within the current street and make other significant physical improvements to the streetscape.

An 'Avenue of Honour' was planted in 1917 in respect of the fallen soldiers in World War One.

The trees were unfortunately removed in the early 1980s when the road was constructed to its current form.

Feedback from the community and stakeholders provided through the 2022 consultation showed people would like:

  • An Avenue of Honour tree memorial reinstated,
  • Improved access to the Anzac Avenue War Memorial and immediate surrounds,
  • Improve the safety of all users of Anzac Avenue
  • Enhanced pedestrian and cycling safety, including safer pedestrian crossings and connections
  • Improved public spaces and seating along Anzac Avenue
  • Increased biodiversity and large tree canopy cover with a focus on colour, beatification and overall enhancement

The project team has now developed Masterplan Options that respond to the feedback provided by community members, traders and local organisations.

A design report has been developed with design options/interventions for community consideration. The design options outline:

  • Strategies for delivering the Avenue of Honour.
  • Options for enhancing the surrounds of the RSL Memorial.
  • Options for improving public spaces and seating along Anzac Avenue and public art.
  • On road cycle lanes and off-road shared path improvements.
  • Intersection upgrades and general traffic safety improvements.

Throughout the consultation period, design workshops and a number of community drop-in sessions have been established to enable discussion and feedback on the design options.
