Helping parents and teachers combat vaping

Greater Shepparton City Council is facilitating a free online session providing up-to-date and accurate information on vaping; the use of electronic cigarettes, e-cigarettes or 'vapes'.

Content will cover the potential harms associated with the use of these devices and will be presented by the Director and founder of Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia (DARTA) Paul Dillon, who is and has been working in the area of drug education for more than 25 years.

Council's Director Community Louise Mitchell, said the session will also provide practical advice on how to talk to young people about vaping.

"Vaping has become a growing issue for schools and parents across the country. For many youth, it is seen as less harmful, better and cheaper than smoking cigarettes," she said.

"This session will provide information on how to best prevent e-cigarette and vaping use among youth and also offer some possible responses that can be used, should young people attempt to challenge parents and teachers in this complex area."

The session will be held online on Monday 5 December 2022 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Those interested in participating should register now via Council's website
