Swan Hill Rural City Council is excited to announce a new Youth Strategy for 2026–2030. This strategy will focus on supporting young people aged 12 to 25, helping them feel heard, supported, and able to reach their goals.
Council's Director of Community and Cultural Services, Bruce Myers, said the strategy would help guide how Council plans and delivers programs, services, and spaces that help young people thrive—now and into the future.
"To make sure the Youth Strategy reflects what young people really need, we're inviting young people and the wider community to get involved and share their ideas," Mr Myers said.
"Young people are a very important part of our community, but we know many face challenges. Some don't have access to services, transport, or support for mental health. Others are looking for safe places to hang out, better education options, or more opportunities to be involved. This strategy is our chance to listen and work together to make real improvements."
In the coming weeks, Council will start a range of activities to hear from young people and others in the community. These will include talking with schools, youth groups, and service providers, running listening sessions in schools and community spaces, and holding hands-on workshops where young people can help design the strategy. There will also be a youth survey open to everyone aged 12 to 25 across the region.
"Whether you're a young person, parent, carer, teacher or just someone who cares about the future of our area—Council wants to hear from you," Mr Myers said.
"By taking part, you'll help make sure the voices of young people are heard, and that the services and spaces in our community really work for them," he said.
