Heritage Advisory Committee Seeks Expressions Of Interest

The City of Greater Bendigo is seeking expressions of interest from community members to join a new Heritage Advisory Committee.

The Heritage Advisory Committee provides the City with advice, guidance, and community representation on the region's built, natural, Aboriginal, and cultural heritage. This helps ensure these valued heritage assets continue to support the region's liveability and economic prosperity.

Up to 15 members can join the Committee and there are six meetings a year.

The Heritage Advisory Committee aims to:

  • Provide advice on the conservation, restoration, and promotion of places of heritage significance
  • Provide advice to the City on a range of strategic documents
  • Promote heritage and build community awareness of its importance
  • Provide advice to the City on current and emerging issues and opportunities in heritage
  • Assist in the development of partnerships and communication networks

City of Greater Bendigo Manager Strategic Planning Anthony Petherbridge said heritage was very important to the City's liveability, identity and economy, and the committee played an important role.

"The City is looking for a diverse mix of people with a passion for Greater Bendigo's heritage who can contribute great ideas and review strategic documents being developed," Mr Petherbridge said.

"This is an opportunity to contribute your knowledge, experience, and passion for heritage, and to help protect what makes Greater Bendigo unique.

"The Heritage Advisory Committee also provides valued technical expertise and a strong community voice, helping the City deliver on its goals and actions for Greater Bendigo's collective heritage."

The Heritage Advisory Committee's past contributions included providing feedback on the latest Heritage Design Guidelines, input on a new Heritage Strategy and hosting the City's first Heritage Forum which was held last year.

The City would particularly welcome expressions of interest from people from the broader Greater Bendigo region and from younger people aged between 15-25 years with an interest in heritage and conservation.

Applications close on Friday May 15.
