Heritage Handbook provides guidelines for owners of historical buildings

The City of Casey has published the 'Heritage Handbook - Practical Guidelines for Owners of Historic Buildings', a practical, easy-to-follow how-to guide for local owners of historic buildings.

The handbook exists to assist local owners of historic buildings to better understand the historical and architectural significance of their properties and the importance of ongoing maintenance in the conservation and protection of heritage properties.

Designed for easy reading and referencing with hands-on advice and useful resources for owners of heritage properties, the handbook assists readers to better understand the era and significant attributes of their heritage property, how to manage a change to a building, address 'frequently asked questions', manage expectations of property owners, and pre-empt inappropriate development outcomes.

The handbook was designed to be accessible to not only landowners of heritage buildings but anyone with a professional or amateur interest in building conservation.

City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM said that the Heritage Handbook is an important introduction to heritage conservation for the local community in the pursuit of protecting heritage buildings for future generations.

"The handbook directly responds to Council's Heritage Strategy as an easy-to-use local government publication of distinction in heritage planning. Freely available to the wider community, this user-friendly online resource is a fine example of our commitment to excellence in sustainable design principles."

All landowners of historic buildings have been provided with a copy of the handbook, and you can view the Heritage Handbook online or access a hard copy at Casey Cardinia Libraries.

The Heritage Handbook was created in collaboration with Lovell Chen Architects, Andrew Hogg Design and illustrator David Harvey.
