Hidden camera found in bathroom, man charged - Bondi Beach

A man has been charged after his roommate discovered a camera hidden in a shared bathroom at Bondi Beach overnight.

The 27-year-old woman, holidaying from France, booked into a hostel on Lamrock Avenue on Sunday (24 March 2019), and was allocated a room with en suite, shared with a man unknown to her.

About 10pm yesterday (Monday 25 March 2019), the woman had finished showering when she noticed a toiletry bag on the sink, with what appeared to be a small camera hidden within a deodorant stick.

She took photos of the device then contacted officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command.

Police attended the scene and arrested a 36-year-old man, who was on holiday in Australia from Hong Kong.

Police will allege the remnants of a smashed camera were found when the man was searched.

A search of the man's property revealed numerous hard drives and storage devices which police will allege contained further videos of women in private acts.

The man has now been charged with install device, adapt building etc to observe or film other, and possess surveillance devices intend unlawful use.

He has been refused bail to appear in Waverley Local Court today (Tuesday 26 March 2019).
