Members from Darwin Traffic Operations are frustrated that some drivers still aren't getting the message about the damage they can cause by getting behind the wheel after drinking.
At about 3pm yesterday, they were called to a two-vehicle crash in Palmerston after the driver of a Mazda 6 failed to give way, driving into the path of an oncoming Toyota Hilux.
As a result of a road side breath test, the driver of the Mazda was arrested for a breath analysis which returned a reading of .218 – about four times the legal limit.
Senior Sergeant Angela Stringer, Officer in Charge Traffic Operations said she is appalled that some people show that they don't care about the impact that their actions can cause.
"This person was selfish enough to create a highly dangerous situation at a time of day when children are riding bikes home from school and parents are on the roads collecting their kids.
"The potential for serious harm caused by this person because she decided to get in her car and drive around after drinking is unacceptable.
"This time she caused a minor crash, not least because of the actions of the other driver to avoid a more serious crash.
"Enough is enough. If you drink drive, we are coming for you!"
