Highfields Town Centre on Council's August Agenda

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will consider further community feedback before the updated Central Highfields Masterplan is brought to its August Planning and Development Committee Meeting, expected to be held on 12 August, 2025.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said the revised timing would allow Council to consider additional community feedback and an economic assessment commissioned by members of the Highfields community.

"Council welcomes the high-level of community engagement we've had in relation to the updated Central Highfields Masterplan which aims to create a town centre, commercial precinct, civic spaces and residential areas in the heart of Highfields.

"The revised timeline for potential Council adoption of the Masterplan will allow Council time to consider the findings of an economic assessment report which has been commissioned by members of the Highfields community and expected to be submitted to Council in coming weeks.

"Council is committed to ensuring the Masterplan reflects community feedback, while also progressing the necessary planning steps to support the growth and prosperity of Central Highfields," Mayor McDonald said.

Earlier this month, Council resolved to establish a 6.3 hectare 'Open Space' area as part of the Central Highfields Masterplan while also progressing the sale of a smaller portion of land for the development of a new fire station.

"Once its developed, the Highfields community will get to enjoy this parkland and open space for generations to come with the known wildlife corridor along Clarkes Road is set to be preserved as open space and parkland," Mayor McDonald said.
