Highlighting Immunisation's Importance: April 24, 2025

Tas Labor

With today marking the start of World Immunisation Week, Labor is spreading the word about the importance of vaccinations and calling on all Tasmanians to book in for a jab ahead of a predicted record flu season.

Shadow Minister for Health Ella Haddad said getting vaccinated against the flu was a simple and selfless way Tasmanians could help the entire community.

"Tasmania has an older population compared to the rest of the nation, and one of the best ways we can protect the most vulnerable in the community is making sure as many people as possible are vaccinated and boosting herd immunity," she said.

"My message to Tasmanians is to do the best thing for you and your community and book in for a flu shot with your pharmacist or doctor as soon as you can, and encourage your friends and family to do the same."

Member for Pembroke Luke Edmunds said in a world of growing misinformation it was important to spread the word about the importance of immunisation.

"Being in public life is both a privilege and a responsibility, and community representatives have a unique opportunity to set positive examples for others to follow around topics like immunisation," he said.

"I'm proud to spread the word about the importance of immunisation, and I hope getting my flu vaccine today gives me a shot in the arm and keeps me fighting fit as I continue a busy period of campaigning in Pembroke."
