Historic Armed Robbery, Vehicle Theft in Myaree, Coogee

Detectives from Cold Case Investigations are seeking public assistance in relation to an historic aggravated armed robbery and stolen motor vehicle incident that occurred in Coogee and Myaree in 2009.

About 6.20pm, Sunday 5 April 2009, a white 2006 BMW E53 station sedan - bearing WA registration plates '027NAT' - was stolen from Woodman Point Boat Ramp in Coogee.

A boat trailer was attached to the stolen BMW. A white Mazda Bravo dual cab utility with pinstriping, was used to facilitate the theft of the BMW and the trailer.

On Monday 6 April 2009, the stolen BMW was then used in an aggravated armed robbery offence that occurred at a bakery at a shopping centre on North Lake Road in Myaree.

About 1am, a female employee had arrived at the store to commence work. Five minutes later, two unknown men entered the store in possession of a mallet and screwdriver.

The men confronted the employee, demanding money from the till. The first unknown male has forced the employee to the rear of the store where the safe was located, and attempted to open the safe with the mallet, while the second unknown male watched the employee.

During this altercation, the manager of the store arrived, causing the men to flee. The manager observed the men leave in the stolen white BMW station sedan.

Upon police arrival and a search of the area surrounding the bakery, officers identified the front entrance to the newsagency - located next to the bakery - had been smashed.

It appears a hammer or a similar object had been used to smash the window. On Tuesday 7 April 2009, police recovered the stolen BMW, with the front window smashed, on a vacant block of land on Frankenia Turn - near Pitta Cor - in Success. A hammer and a screwdriver were recovered from the vehicle.

Later that day, the stolen boat trailer was recovered on Clarence Beach Road in Henderson with its registration plates removed.

The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are urging anyone with any information in relation to this incident, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online via www.crimestopperswa.com.au . All reports can be made anonymously.

The first unknown male is described at the time of the incident as being between 17-20-years-old, approximately 165 centimetres tall, of slim and athletic build, with short hair, and dark or tanned complexion.

He was wearing dark clothing with a face covering, white sneakers and was possibly wearing gloves (similar to attached image). It's believed he was carrying a mallet or screwdriver.

The second male is described at the time of the incident as being about 20-years-old, approximately 175 centimetres tall, of slim build, with fair complexion, short sandy brown or blonde hair with a rat's tail, and a faint moustache.

He was wearing dark grey shorts, a dark coloured jumper, black and white Nike Air Max or similar sneakers, and was also believed to be carrying a mallet or screwdriver.
