Congratulations to Japan on their win at the AFC Women's Asian Cup and to all teams that competed.
Australia has delivered the highest attended AFC Women's Asian Cup in history, elevating women's sport on the global stage.
This year's tournament broke many previous attendance records, including:
- Being the most highly attended edition of the tournament in its history, with 355,528 fans attending. This surpasses the previous record of 59,910 set in 2010 in China.
- The final between Japan and Australia was the highest-attended match in tournament history, with 74,397 attending.
- The Korea Republic v Japan semi-final set a record for the highest attendance ever for an AFC Women's Asian Cup match featuring two non-host nations, with 17,367 attending.
- The Australia v Korea Republic match held on International Women's Day was the highest ever attended Women's Asian Cup group stage match, with 60,279 attending. It was also the highest-attended Asian Cup group stage match ever staged in Australia, across both the men's and women's competitions.
These records represent a powerful moment for women's sport and set new benchmarks for women's football in Asia. The tournament provided a great opportunity to support our national women's football team, the Matildas, who did an amazing job reaching the final.
Their performance has also secured qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2027 in Brazil, and the Matildas continue to inspire the next generation of women and girls to get involved in sport.
The Australian Government is proud to have supported this tournament, investing $15 million in line with the National Sport Strategy Sport Horizon.
