The Tin Ka Ping Foundation recently injected $5M into the Tin Ka Ping Education Fund at the Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). The Foundation donated a further $2.5M to support the Tin Ka Ping Immersion and Internship in Chinese Culture and Traditions, which provides all undergraduates with the opportunity to participate in an experiential learning experience that may include visiting significant historic sites, interacting with ethnic minorities, or undertaking an internship.
In April 2017, the Education Library was named the Tin Ka Ping Education Library to honour the Foundation for the generous support it has given the University. An additional donation was made to support two programmes: a Postgraduate Fellowship programme and a Grant for Experiential Learning at the Faculty of Education. The Faculty of Education at HKU is ranked third globally in the 2020 Times Higher Education (THE) World Rankings by Subject.
President Xiang Zhang expressed the University’s gratitude towards the Foundation on its staunch support of HKU for the past three decades. The cumulative donations from the Foundation now total $47M.
The connection between the Foundation and HKU dates back to the establishment of the Tin Ka Ping Visiting Fellowship Scheme at the Faculty of Education in 1991. This support from the Foundation has enabled hundreds of Mainland academics and educators from different disciplines to come to HKU as Visiting Fellows. Learning from and sharing with their peers, these Visiting Fellows take back to their posts new perceptions and broadened horizons. This outcome has played an important part in fulfilling the mission of the Foundation.
The Training Programme for Principals from Gansu Province, which was established in 2013, is another successful partnership between the Faculty and the Foundation that has allowed the Faculty to establish a pioneering cross-border training programme for principals of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, and education directors in the province’s Ministry of Education. The commitment of the Foundation to this project extended to 2018, which makes it a signature project that both the Faculty and the Foundation are proud of.
