The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Suzhou Kowloon Hospital, under the Hong Kong Kowloon Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 12 March to jointly establish the "HKU - Suzhou Innovation Corridor", emphasising a close partnership in MedTech and clinical research.
This collaboration will focus on four strategic directions: jointly incubating cutting-edge medical projects and start-ups; supporting promising innovative outcomes through collaborative investment opportunities; fostering technology transfer and applications by sharing research facilities and expertise; and promoting cross-border learning and exchanges through training programmes to cultivate future talent in the MedTech industry. This initiative aspires to develop a collaborative ecosystem that encompasses research, investment, and talent development.
The signing ceremony was held in Suzhou Industrial Park and was witnessed by Professor Alice Sze Tsai Wong, Associate Vice President (Research), HKU; Mr Eric Sun, Chairman of the Hong Kong Kowloon Group; and Mr Jiang Weiming, Director of Suzhou Industrial Park Investment Promotion Committee. The MoU was signed by Dr Paul Wang, Director of HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Core (HKU TEC), and Mr Jun Wang, Vice President of the Hong Kong Kowloon Group. Together, the two parties aim to drive technological breakthroughs in the medical field through the seamless integration of the strengths of "industry, academia, research, and investment".
Professor Alice Sze Tsai Wong stated, "We are excited to collaborate with Suzhou Kowloon Hospital, marking not only the inaugural step of the 'HKU - Suzhou Innovation Corridor' but also a significant milestone in promoting MedTech advancement between the two regions. Mr Eric Sun said, " We are committed to delivering exceptional clinical resources and a team of highly skilled medical professionals to this platform. In partnership with HKU, we aim to cultivate innovative medical talent and foster cutting-edge healthcare technology projects with global competitiveness. Our goal is to drive sustained advancement and growth in regional medical innovation and technological development."
Mr Jiang Weiming stated: "As a flagship project of cooperation between the Chinese and Singaporean governments, the Suzhou Industrial Park focuses on three key areas in the biomedical and health sectors: innovative drugs, high-end medical devices, and comprehensive health. The park is dedicated to bringing together premier innovation resources and expertise. We will continue to cultivate a world-class ecosystem where HKU innovators and their projects can thrive, accelerating the path from collaboration to commercial success."
Under this initiative, the "MedTech Hackathon GBA 2026" hosted by HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Core (TEC), the HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Academy (TEA), and Bay Charm (Guangming Biopharmaceutical Innovation Center), has received the full support from the Suzhou Industrial Park and Suzhou Kowloon Hospital. This event aims to empower research teams to transform innovative discoveries into sustainable market solutions while providing systematic support for biomedical entrepreneurs. With the theme "Wisdom Converges in Suzhou, Leading the Future", the event seeks to gather global biomedical innovation efforts, promote advancements in next-generation MedTech, and facilitate expert exchanges and visits to foster collaboration and resource integration.

HKU Technology and Innovation Centre (HKU TEC)
HKU TEC serves as the core of HKU's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Established in 2023, HKU TEC is dedicated to integrating and strengthening the university's innovative and entrepreneurial resources, constructing a vibrant technology ecosystem. Its co-working space, iDendron, has successfully nurtured over 500 early-stage start-ups from HKU, providing critical support and interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities to help young entrepreneurs grow.
Suzhou Kowloon Hospital
Suzhou Kowloon Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine was approved by the National Health Commission in May 2003 and was constructed with an investment from the Hong Kong Kowloon Group. It is managed in collaboration with the Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine. As a national Class 3 (top-level) Tertiary Comprehensive Hospital, the hospital adheres to the of "patient-centered" philosophy since its establishment, dedicating itself to providing comprehensive, high-quality, and professional medical services to the community. It has been awarded the "National Model Patient-Trusted Hospital", "National Most Valuable Private Hospital", etc. Dr. Chen Zhu, the former Minister of Health, once commented, "Kowloon Hospital is a banner for all comprehensive private hospitals.
