Hodgman continues to keep Tasmanians in dark over his savage cuts

Tasmanian Labor
  • Hodgman refuses to tell Tasmanians where his savage cuts are coming from
  • RTI documents are a disgrace and Tasmanians deserve answers
  • Will Hodgman continues to keep Tasmanians in the dark over what impact his savage $450 million budget cuts will have on jobs and services.

When questioned in Parliament today, Will Hodgman refused to release detail on the extent of the cuts.

"It was disgraceful to see in the RTI documents obtained by Labor the amounts required to be cut from each department were hidden behind a sea of black ink," Mr O'Byrne said.

"These documents show that Will Hodgman has known about these cuts for months yet he continues to hide the figures from the public.

"Tasmanians have a right to know exactly where the cuts are coming from and what frontline services will be impacted.

"This is far from the Golden Age that Peter Gutwein promised and it is clear from speaking with people on the frontline that the impact of these cuts will be crippling.

"Will Hodgman has not denied that the razor gang has directed Ambulance Tasmania to find $5.7 million in cuts this financial year.

"We also know that casual and permanent part-time nursing staff have also been told that their shifts will be cut back from eight hours to six.

"The Hodgman Health Razor Gang has also slashed elective surgeries in Tasmanian hospitals by 15 per cent.

"It was Will Hodgman's reckless election spending and his Treasurer's hopeless budget mismanagement that have us hurtling beyond $1 billion of debt. To refuse to level with the Tasmanian people now is just completely gutless."

    David O'Byrne MP

    Shadow Treasurer
