Today, Minister Hodgson met with Australia's Minister for Resources, Madeleine King, at the G7 Energy and Environment Ministers' Meeting in Toronto, Ontario.
Minister Hodgson thanked Minister King for Australia's vital partnership in the G7 Critical Minerals Action Plan. Both ministers reaffirmed the need to secure opportunities for joint investments to bring critical minerals into production and secure supply chains that maintain high standards. They highlighted the robust two-way minerals trade between Canada and Australia, and shared opportunities in critical minerals infrastructure, mining and processing capabilities.
The Ministers reaffirmed Canada and Australia's commitment to deepen bilateral critical minerals partnership by signing a Joint Declaration of Intent that outlines areas of cooperation relating to:
- project financing, investment, and trade;
- technology development and deployment;
- policy and regulatory alignment;
- standards-based markets;
- supply chain resilience; and,
- information sharing.
