Today, Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, and France's Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industrial, Energy, and Digital Sovereignty Roland Lescure, met at the G7 Energy and Environment Ministers' Meeting in Toronto, Ontario. They underscored their shared commitment to energy security, sustainable economic growth, and the clean energy transition.
Ministers Hodgson and Lescure discussed opportunities to strengthen the Critical Minerals Production Alliance, including co-investment prospects in Canadian projects supported by French-backed funds. The two ministers agreed to work toward enhanced trade and investment in sustainable, responsibly produced critical minerals supply chains that underpin clean energy, electric vehicles, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Minister Hodgson and Minister Lescure discussed the potential for increased French investments in uranium mining, while emphasizing the importance of balancing reliable fuel supply with sovereign industrial objectives, as well as perspectives on the growth of nuclear energy globally
Minister Hodgson also extended an invitation to Minister Lescure to return to Canada for the International Energy Agency Global Conference on Energy Efficiency, which will be hosted in Montreal in 2026.
Building on the outcomes of the G7 Leaders' Summit earlier this year, today's dialogue paves the way for a coordinated approach that leverages bilateral strengths.
With France set to host the 2026 G7 Presidency, both countries reinforced their commitment to maintaining the momentum generated during Canada's G7 Presidency and contributing to a secure, sustainable, resilient energy future.
