14 August 2026 marks the 150th anniversary of Hokkaido University. On this day in 1876, the University was born as Sapporo Agricultural College. Join us in looking back on our history through a timeline brought to life with historical photographs from that era.
This video was produced by the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst), our long-standing partner with deep historical ties dating back to the days of Sapporo Agricultural College, using photographs preserved by the Hokkaido University Archives.
We are also jointly producing a video that highlights the enduring relationship between the two universities, a connection that traces its roots to the era of Dr. William S. Clark. The video will be premiered at the 150th Anniversary Ceremony on 26 September and posted to our social media channels on the same day.
