Holiday activities at Alice Springs Desert Park

Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture

Alice Springs Desert Park is turning on the sparkle this holiday period with a festive program to help children discover, create and connect with nature.

The Mud, Water and Nature Play program will run every Sunday and Wednesday from 9am until 10.30am, starting Sunday, 15 December 2019 and finishing Sunday, 26 January 2020.

Children will enjoy fun-filled mornings exploring nature, doing arts and crafts, and getting hands on with ice play and mud pies.

Admission fees apply or a valid Territorian Pass or Membership Pass. Activities are free once you enter the park. No bookings required.

The park is open 7.30am until 6pm daily, and only closed on Christmas Day (25 December). So grab your friends and family and visit this world-class attraction.

As noted by Doug Taylor, Acting Visitor Experience Coordinator, Alice Springs Desert Park:

"We are working hard to bring back nature play as a normal part of childhood. Remember when you were young and you spent hours messing around with water and mud?

"Through this kind of unstructured outdoor play, what we call 'nature play', children engage all their senses and learn to better regulate emotions, collaborate, socialise, gain self-confidence and build their resilience. These qualities follow them into adulthood

"Join us these school holidays to discover, create and connect with the living world around us. Enjoy the fresh morning air while trying your hand at nature craft, ice play and mud pie mania – how big will your mud pie be?"
