Home owner detains man during break-in - Hume PD

A crime scene has been established at a home in the state's southern region after a Triple Zero (000) call was made by the home owner who believed two men were breaking into his home.

About 1am (Sunday 5 May 2019), a 21-year-old occupant of a home on Bumbaldry Street, Koorawatha, confronted two men who had allegedly smashed a window of his home and appeared to be attempting to break-in.

The occupant, who had armed himself with a golf club, assaulted a 42-year-old man, leaving him with serious facial injuries.

Police have been told the man then restrained him prior to the arrival of police.

Officers from The Hume Police District, together with NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived at location and commenced inquiries.

A 42-year-old man was taken to Cowra Hospital in a serious but stable condition, before being airlifted to Liverpool District Hospital.

The occupant has been taken to Young Police Station where he is assisting police with inquiries.

Inquiries continue into the incident and the whereabouts of the second man.
