Homemade Firearm Seized At North Brighton

Four people were arrested yesterday after a homemade firearm was uncovered during a vehicle stop.

At about 3pm Wednesday 25 March, Southern District patrols spotted a Holden sedan displaying unassigned number plates on Brighton Road at North Brighton.

Police stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver and three passengers. Officers conducted a search of the sedan, during which they allegedly located a homemade firearm and ammunition.

A 29-year-old man from Gepps Cross, an 18-year-old man from Elizabeth Downs, a 17-year-old boy from Smithfield Plains and a 15-year-old boy from Northfield were arrested and charged with possessing an unregistered firearm and breach of bail. The 17-year-old driver was also charged with driving with a suspended licence and drug driving, after he allegedly tested positive to methamphetamine.

All four were refused police bail and are expected to appear in court later today, Thursday 26 March.

The unassigned plated were seized.
