Homicide Investigation At Beenleigh

Police have arrested a man as part of investigations into the shooting death of a man at Beenleigh overnight, 2 December.

Around 10.40pm, emergency services were called to Hugh Muntz Park following reports a man had been shot.

Officers attended where they located a 35-year-old Bahrs Scrub man with a wound to his chest, in the vicinity of Morrison Lane.

Officers and paramedics treated the man at the scene and a crime-scene was declared around 10.45pm.

The man was declared deceased shortly after.

Subsequent investigations identified a stolen white Kia Stonic sedan, bearing stolen registration plates, had left the scene shortly after the shooting.

Police sighted the vehicle at Kumbari Avenue, Labrador, and a Tyre Deflation Device (TDD) was successfully deployed on Jabiru Island.

The vehicle continued for a short distance before being abandoned at the intersection of Hope Island Road and Helensvale Road.

A man fled the vehicle on foot into nearby scrub.

Dog Squad officers conducted a sweep of the area and arrested a 22-year-old Beenleigh man shortly after, allegedly hiding underwater amongst the reeds near Saltwater Park.

A subsequent search of the man allegedly uncovered ammunition.

A firearm was also located discarded nearby.

A secondary crime-scene was declared on the vehicle.

Investigations continue.
