Mornington Peninsula Shire proudly celebrates and honours our dedicated volunteers.
Acting Mayor Paul Pingiaro said: "Volunteers are at the heart of our community, where both volunteers and those they support benefit in meaningful ways. Through volunteering, people can positively impact someone else's life while also gaining valuable experiences and relationships of their own."
Our tireless heroes were honoured at a volunteer's recognition event held as part of National Volunteers Week.
Across the Shire, volunteers contribute to a range of programs and services. From community support initiatives to environmental projects, libraries and local programs, their efforts make a difference in the lives of many.
Two of our volunteer programs are celebrating anniversaries this year:
- The Home Library Service has been supporting residents who are unable to visit libraries in person for the last 25 years. Beyond providing access to books, the program offers a friendly face and ongoing connection, with volunteers thoughtfully matched to borrowers based on shared interests.
- The Peninsula Advisory Committee for Elders (PACE) is celebrating 20 years of service and has played an important role in advocating for older residents, ensuring the needs and voices of seniors are represented.
These milestones highlight not only the value of these programs, but the lasting impact volunteers have in shaping a Peninsula where all are included.
In 2025 alone, volunteers across the Shire collectively contributed an impressive 15,000 hours of service.
The volunteer recognition event was attended by Acting Mayor Cr Paul Pingiaro, Councillors Stephen Batty, David Gill, Kate Roper, Michael Stephens and Cam Williams, along with 180 volunteers across 11 Shire programs and four advisory committees.
