Hooning - Palmerston 25 March

Northern Territory Police have seized a vehicle after a hooning incident in Palmerston last night.

Drug and Organised Crime members were conducting road policing operations in Yarrawonga when they observed two vehicles drive onto Mathew Hopkins Road. A Nissan Pathfinder preceded to perform a burnout before violently swerving back onto the road.

Police apprehended the 20-year-old male driver, and he was subjected to a drug test, where he gave a positive reading for cannabis.

The driver received a $700 on the spot fine and issued an infringement for:

  • 1 x Drive with prohibited drug in blood
  • 1 x Drive vehicle cause loss of traction

The vehicle was seized for 48 hours under anti-hooning legislation.

Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Akers said, "This behaviour will not be tolerated. NT Police will continue to work tirelessly to ensure road safety rules are followed by motorists, especially over the notoriously busy Easter period".
