Hospital staff get their 'Legs Out For Lymphoma'

Hollywood Private Hospital staff are raising funds to help set up a network of lymphoma care nurses

Running, walking, cycling, swimming or even star-jumping - Hollywood Private Hospital staff are stepping up to raise funds for the 'Legs Out For Lymphoma 2021' campaign.

Throughout March, staff who care for patients diagnosed with the blood cancer will be making 10,000 steps each day as part of Lymphoma Australia's initiative.

They are also planning a social event at the end of the month to complete the challenge.

Lymphoma is the sixth most common cancer in Australia and the most common blood cancer. It begins in the infection-fighting cells of the immune system - lymphocytes - which are found in the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, bone marrow, and other parts of the body.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the disease, and to fundraise to provide lymphoma care nurses across the country.

The Perth hospital's Cancer Care Navigator, Therese Thompson, said someone is diagnosed with lymphoma every two hours in Australia.

"The money raised from Legs Out For Lymphoma will go towards supporting the establishment of lymphoma care nurses," Ms Thompson said.

"These trained nurses provide up-to-date information about lymphoma and ensure no-one is on the lymphoma journey alone."
