House fire investigation, Russell Island

Police are investigating a house fire in which six people are unaccounted for on Russell Island this morning, August 6.

Emergency services were called at approximately 6.20am to a Todman Street property following reports a house was on fire.

Upon arrival, the house was fully involved and multiple surrounding properties were damaged.

A crime scene was immediately declared and an investigation launched.

Initial investigations indicate six people are unaccounted for, including five children and a man, who are residents at the property.

Nine people were treated at the scene, including neighbours, and two people have been transported to hospital in a stable condition.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.

Fire investigators are awaiting the area to be declared safe before examining the scene.
