From 23 to 25 September 2025, the International Criminal Court (ICC) held a Training for Counsel with the participation of over 110 lawyers including counsel registered on the ICC List of Counsel, list of assistants to counsel and members of the legal teams currently active before the Court. The training took place both at the seat of the Court, in The Hague, The Netherlands, and online.
Welcoming training participants, ICC Registrar Osvaldo Zavala Giler stated: "The Registry is committed to ensuring that you and your teams are not only familiar with the procedural and ethical landscape of the Court but also equipped to engage meaningfully with it".
The seminar provided participants with practical guidance on the Court's legal framework, as well as interactive sessions on advocacy, case management, and courtroom practice to ensure that counsel are equipped with the tools necessary to effectively represent clients before the Court. The training fostered dialogue and the exchange of best practices among practitioners, contributing to the fair and efficient conduct of ICC proceedings, with the special participation of several judges of the Court and the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, as well as Counsel who has been intervening before the ICC.
ICC seminars and trainings for lawyers registered on the ICC lists have been an annual activity of the Court since 2004, providing a unique platform to celebrate the contribution of Counsel to the Court's mandate and to engage in mutually beneficial dialogue with the legal profession.
The Court is grateful to the European Union for its generous financial support of this seminar and previous similar events for over 15 years.
