IIASA, Kyoto University Boost Disaster Collaboration

IIASA

The long-standing cooperation between IIASA and the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI) at Kyoto University has been strengthened through renewal of the MOU.

Both institutes are founding members of the Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRiM) society, which fosters intense science-policy-practice cooperation in the disaster space.

It organizes annual conference on related matters. This year's conference will be held in Samos, Greece, from Sept. 28th to Oct. 1st 2025 on the topic "Advancing disaster risk reduction in islands and remote areas". Various IIASA scientists will join this conference in order to strengthen network collaborations and discuss ways forward on disaster and systemic risks management. The IDRiM society also hosts an own journal, where IIASA researchers are part of the editorial team.

IDRIM is as well engaged in topical conferences, such as last year's Polycrisis and Systemic Risk Symposium in Beijing, co-hosted by IIASA (see paper on systemic risk and resilience dividends approach and on macro-economic co-benefits of resilience strategies).
