ILO Unveils Database Boosting Social Dialogue Insight

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has developed a new global database on National Social Dialogue Institutions (NSDIs) as part of its activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Tripartite Consultation (International Labour Standards) Convention, 1976 (No. 144).

The database is designed to support governments, employers' and workers' organizations, researchers, and ILO constituents in strengthening evidence-based social dialogue policies and institutions across countries and regions.

It enhances understanding of social dialogue institutions worldwide by providing comparative quantitative and qualitative information on national mechanisms for tripartite consultation and cooperation.

The quantitative component of the database is already available online through the ILO National Social Dialogue Institutions (NSDI) Database. It allows users to:

  • compare countries regionally and globally using criteria such as type of institution, date of establishment, and composition;
  • generate regional and global statistics on key institutional characteristics;
  • produce comparative diagrams and visualizations;
  • generate world maps illustrating the global distribution of institutional models; and
  • access comparative information on key social dialogue conventions, including Conventions Nos. 87, 98, 135, 144, 151 and 154.

Qualitative regional tables will be released progressively, with Europe and Central Asia becoming available before the start of the 2026 International Labour Conference, while additional regions will follow shortly thereafter.
