- Boola Bidi Primary School in Banksia Grove will open for the 2027 school year
- School to accommodate almost 600 students
- Part of Cook Labor Government putting WA first with record $6.4 billion investment in education infrastructure across Western Australia
Education Minister Sabine Winton has today celebrated the naming of Banksia Grove's newest school, Boola Bidi Primary School, which is set to welcome students in 2027.
The school's name - meaning 'many pathways' - strongly reflects the school's emerging vision: One School, Many Pathways.
Proposed names were developed through consultation with the local community and a Noongar place-naming process facilitated by Moodjar and led by Emeritus Professor Dr Len Collard.
Boola Bidi Primary Schoolis designed to accommodate 540 students from kindergarten to year 6, with additional facilities for approximately 50 students in the education support program.
Construction is underway on the $44.2 million new school, which will help relieve enrolment pressures on Grandis Primary School and other schools in this fast-growing north-east corridor of Perth.
The new school will feature two double-storey classroom blocks, one single-storey block with education support classrooms, and science and art rooms.
An administration building, library, staff room block, and a covered assembly building including a music room and canteen are also part of the build.
The school will also feature a new dedicated kindergarten and pre-primary classroom block with a specialised play space, along with a new education support program with classrooms, staff areas, therapy room, sensory room, and a covered area for bus drop off.
External works will include car parking, shade shelters, bike parking, and hard courts.
This significant project forms part of the Cook Labor Government's efforts to put WA first by investing a record $6.4 billion in education infrastructure since 2017.
As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:
"It's exciting to see the construction of this new school in Banksia Grove coming together as we officially announce its name.
"There was very strong community support for the name Boola Bidi, which followed consultation with local Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community members, educators, Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers, and school representatives
"As both Education Minister and Member for Wanneroo, I know how important it is for families to have quality schools where they live, and for students to learn in comfortable and modern environments.
"I know this new school will benefit the community for generations to come and look forward to seeing its doors open to students next year."
