Imagine Mornington Peninsula without volunteers

Can you picture the Mornington Peninsula without volunteers?

There are countless things around you every day that wouldn't be possible without volunteers. What would the Peninsula be like without lifesavers, the SES, sporting clubs, our local food relief services, and the many volunteers who restore local ecosystems?

Today marks the beginning of National Volunteer Week 2023, from 15 – 21 May where we recognise and celebrate the vital support of volunteers and encourage other people to give their time for the wellbeing of our communities.

Did you know that more than 20,000 Mornington Peninsula residents volunteer their time to make the Peninsula a safer, healthier, happier and more beautiful place to live?

As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, you'll find us at the Mornington Market this Wednesday 17 May, from 9am to 2pm. At our stall, we'll be joined by local organisations and community groups looking for volunteers to join their teams.

If you can't make it on Wednesday, please find an upcoming pop up stall from July to December by visiting our website: mornpen.vic.gov.au/communityengagement

So how can you help your community? The best place to start is by reflecting on what your passion is. Do you love to meet new people? How about gardening or driving?

Through our website, volmornpen.com.au you can discover a volunteering opportunity that's perfect for you.

Love cooking? Confident surfer? Good with numbers? Find an opening that sets your soul on fire!

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Steve Holland:

"It's so often the case that our volunteers fly under the radar and don't receive the recognition they deserve. We are fortunate to have such high rates of volunteerism on the Mornington Peninsula. I hope you will join me this week in celebrating the volunteers you know."
