Washington, DC: Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), issued the following statement today at the conclusion of the visit of His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal:
"I was delighted to welcome President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye to IMF Headquarters today and expand our constructive dialogue on Senegal's economic policy priorities. I expressed my deep appreciation to the President and his team for our strong partnership as we work expeditiously toward a new Fund-supported program.
"Senegal has made encouraging progress in strengthening the economy and improving the outlook for investments, jobs and growth. Our discussions reaffirmed our shared commitment to advancing reforms that support macroeconomic stability, enhance private sector activities, and bring tangible social and economic benefits to the Senegalese people. I especially commend the authorities' intention to pursue a debt treatment and for their determination to swiftly restore fiscal sustainability.
"We are fully committed to supporting the authorities' reform efforts as they pursue their development ambitions. I am confident that, by working together, we can deliver lasting results for the people of Senegal."
