Constant removal of graffiti at Norries Head in Cabarita Beach is both costly and time consuming.
Tweed Shire Council has condemned repeated acts of graffiti vandalism at Norries Head and throughout Cabarita Beach, urging anyone with information to report it to Police.
The words 'locals only' have been spray-painted on rocks at the headland, along Cudgera Creek Road and on an electricity box at the entrance to town, damaging one of the Tweed's most iconic coastal locations and number of public assets.
Council's Director Sustainable Communities and Environment, Naomi Searle, said the vandalism was disappointing, costly and harmful to both the natural environment and broader community.
"Norries Head is a place the community values and takes pride in. Not only does this vandalism damage the natural landscape but its repeated removal here and at other locations around the town and Shire is also costing the community thousands of dollars," Ms Searle said.
"We do not believe this behaviour reflects the values of our community. People want to see this beautiful headland and the places they love protected and cared for, not defaced."
Council is asking anyone with information about the incidents to report it to Police.
"If you have information that could help identify those responsible, please report it. Details such as vehicle registrations, descriptions of people involved, photos or videos can make a significant difference."
Council has recently stepped up efforts to tackle illegal dumping and intends to take a similarly proactive approach to graffiti vandalism.
"Through our CCTV network, we've been able to identify and fine people dumping waste beside our public bins. Graffiti is no different. These acts damage community assets, and we encourage residents to report suspicious behaviour and provide any information that may assist authorities," Ms Searle said.
How to report graffiti vandalism
- If you witness graffiti in progress, contact police immediately by calling Triple Zero (000). Residents can also use the BluLink platform to share information with police, including GPS locations, video and digital uploads. Visit: BluLink - NSW Police Public Site
- To have graffiti removed from a Council owned asset in the Tweed, please report it to Council online at tweed.nsw.gov.au/report-graffiti or by calling 02 6670 2400. Offensive graffiti on Council-owned assets is removed as soon as possible, while non-offensive graffiti is addressed through scheduled maintenance programs.
