Important Commitment To Health And Medical Research

Universities Australia welcomes the Albanese Government's significant investment in a new National Health and Medical Research Strategy to boost our research workforce and improve the lives of Australians.

"Australia is ahead of the game in health and medical research," Universities Australia Chief Executive Officer Luke Sheehy said.

"Our talented researchers work tirelessly to tackle challenges and discover breakthroughs that change lives and prepare us for the future.

"We simply wouldn't have the knowledge, cures, treatments and technological advancements we have today without our world-class research workforce and universities.

"To keep our place globally, we must continue to invest in our researchers and ensure the right settings are in place for them to continue undertaking the vitally important work they do.

"The government's National Health and Medical Strategy, and new investments through the Medical Research Future Fund, are welcome and important steps to build on Australia's research effort.

"I'd also like to congratulate the 229 researchers awarded funding to investigate complex health challenges facing Australia through the National Health and Medical Research Council.

"Universities look forward to working with government and industry to support the strategy and continue delivering the health and medical outcomes Australians need and deserve."
