Improving Accessibility At Kyneton Station

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government has improved accessibility for passengers on the Bendigo Line, with a new ramp built at the entrance to Kyneton Station.

The new switchback ramp will deliver better passing space for passengers and make it easier for passengers using mobility aids to access the station.

New lights have been installed to improve visibility at night when accessing the ramp and for passengers entering the station, while the bus shelter has been relocated to allow for the new ramp and a widened footpath.

Kyneton Station opened in 1862 and is one of the key stops for trains on the Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines and on average, more than 2,500 passengers pass through the station each week.

This new accessibility ramp is part of a more than $10 million program delivered by V/Line to upgrade and improve accessibility at 16 V/Line stations across the network.

Also on the Bendigo Line, a new ramp and accessible ticket counter have been delivered at Clarkefield Station, while an accessible ticket counter and bathrooms were installed at Castlemaine Station.

The Victorian Government is delivering additional weekend capacity for Bendigo Line passengers with more trains to run with six carriages.

From 14 September, 14 weekend services that currently run as three carriage VLocity trains will run with six carriages, helping support passenger demand increases on the Bendigo Line.

Other stations that received accessibility upgrades as part of the program of works also include Caroline Springs, Drouin, North Geelong, Shepparton, Tarneit, Warragul and Wyndham Vale.

Since the introduction of the regional fare cap on 31 March 2023, we've seen record numbers of passengers taking full advantage of V/Line services including more than 24 million train trips taken in 2024.

As stated by Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams

"We're continually working to deliver a more accessible transport network, and these improvements will make a difference to passengers' experience at Kyneton Station."

"The Allan Labor Government is continuing to invest in a public transport network that is more accessible, safe and reliable for passengers across regional Victoria."

As stated by Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas

"We're always looking for opportunities to make improvements and these important upgrades at Kyneton Station will support passengers with accessibility needs."
