Improving education in Mitchell Shire

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes officially opened the Marie Williams Kilmore Family and Childrens Centre on Thursday 27 October.

The project saw the existing Marie Williams Kindergarten and Kilmore Maternal and Child Health Centre combined into one centre.

Two new early learning rooms have been added, as well as an additional play space and shared entrances for families and staff.

The centre now features four sessional kindergarten rooms with two associated play spaces, connected Maternal and Child Health consultation suites, program rooms and parent meeting spaces, and a staff lounge and office.

Works were completed without disrupting ongoing services. The kindergarten children were included throughout the build process with opportunities to provide feedback on the construction as part of their learning.

The redevelopment will help the growing Kilmore community access family services in one location and provide an opportunity to embrace the three-year-old kindergarten roll out that started this year.

The $3.36 million upgrade was supported by $1.86 million from the Victorian Government's Building Blocks Grants, $1.1 million from the Victorian Government's Growing Suburbs Fund and $394,000 from Mitchell Shire Council.
