Works have started to improve flooding and inundation issues on the western side of the Bruce Highway between Dallachy Road and south of Dean Road in Tully.
The $18 million upgrade is part of the Bruce Highway Upgrade Program, which is aimed at improving safety, flood resilience and capacity along the Highway from Brisbane to Cairns.
The Australian Government is contributing $14.4 million and the Queensland Government contributing $3.6 million to the project, which will create over 40 direct jobs over its lifetime.
BMD Constructions will be delivering the works.
Several reinforced concrete box culverts of varying sizes will be installed under the highway to ensure optimal water flow and drainage during the rainy season.
This section of the Bruce Highway will remain closed while the works are carried out with motorists being diverted onto an old section of the highway to maintain traffic capacity in the area.
Construction is expected to be completed mid-2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.
