Improving our ambulance fleet

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Health

Ambulance Tasmania will have around 12 new state-of-the-art vehicles delivered in the next six months, equipped with best-practice paramedic systems and with the build and fit out done right here in Tasmania.

We committed to scoping the procurement for a $9 million investment into the fleet during the election, with contemporary vehicles and replacement of critical equipment to support our paramedics, as part of our First 100 Day Plan.

These initial 12 new Mercedes Sprinter Type 1 ambulances will increase the proportion of the fleet that is equipped with modern safety features and new equipment, including powered stretchers, delivering improved safety for patients and paramedics.

The contract for the build and fit out of the ambulances and their interiors has been awarded to Penguin-based company Mader International.

New ambulances and other patient care equipment will continue to provide the Tasmanian community with an effective and efficient emergency service.

This $9 million investment in our fleet, along with 48 additional paramedics and new and upgraded ambulance stations in key regional locations, will enable Ambulance Tasmania to adapt and respond to increasing demand and improve response times.
