The Andrews Labor Government is upgrading five intersections along one of the busiest corridors in Melbourne's north to improve safety for all road users.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne today announced Sydney Road will be upgraded between Bell Street in Coburg and Park Street in Brunswick.
The works will take place at the intersections of Harding Street, Reynard Street, Moreland Street, Albert Street and Albion Street - and will see early-start signals installed at pedestrian crossings, as well as improved traffic lights.
Pedestrian safety signage including electronic 'Give Way to Pedestrians' signs will also be installed, along with new line markings, tactiles and pram ramps for better accessibility.
The latest round of works form part of the Australian and Victorian Government's joint Road Safety Program.
Since 2015, the Labor Government has delivered a range of safety improvements along Sydney Road to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety.
It includes a permanent 40km/h speed limit, electronic signage, dedicated green bike lanes and bicycle head-start boxes.
The works are scheduled for completion in March this year.
