Improving Visitor Access At Cockle Creek

Tasmanian Government

Visitors will soon benefit from improved access at the gateway to the Southwest National Park.

Works will begin at the Catamaran campgrounds and boat ramp at Cockle Creek campgrounds from April 15.

Acting Minister for Parks, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the Tasmanian Government has provided $1.1m funding for the works which will benefit visitors.

"These upgrades will create a safer and improved visitor experience while also maintaining important cultural and natural values at the site," Minister Ogilvie said.

"Upgrades will include improved access and parking for boat trailers using the existing boat launch site, delineation of camping sites and improved traffic management."

The works follow the completion of the new shelter and toilets at Cockle Creek delivered in 2022.

Local Civil Construction Company, Andrew Walter Constructions will deliver the works, with this project also providing job opportunities in regional Tasmania.

The works are part of the Cockle Creek Precinct Site Plan, formalised following public consultation.

The Catamaran boat ramp and campground will be closed from 15 April 2026 to 31 July 2026 during the works to ensure visitor safety and expedite delivery.

All works are due to be complete in August.
