More than 2300 people joined the City of Playford and One Tree Hill Progress Association to celebrate the official opening of the upgraded McGilp Recreation Park on 28 September, marking a proud moment for the One Tree Hill community.
The partnership delivered the One Tree Hill Community Day and offered something for everyone. From delicious food trucks to family activities and market stalls, the event showcased that through collaboration, McGilp Recreation Park's new facilities and playground could be enjoyed by everyone!
It brought together many of our sporting clubs and community groups that call McGilp Recreation Park home - further recognising the positive impact of partnerships on community pride and connectedness.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty believes the community day's strong turnout reflects the widespread sense of connection we have here in Playford.
"Events like this bring people together and remind us of what makes our City so special - the people and the shared commitment to creating a great place to live," Mayor Docherty said.
"One Tree Hill has always been a close-knit community, and this event highlighted how much can be achieved through partnerships. Spaces like this, along with the hard work that goes into delivering these events, help connect people - and it's all made possible through partnerships like the one between Council and the One Tree Hill Progress Association."
The One Tree Hill Progress Association Gift was also revived at the event, having first been run in 1979 as a 100-metre race thanks to a donation from E. R. Hicks.
This year, a 50-metre community race brought locals together in the spirit of friendly competition and Carlos claimed victory, further helping to continue the much-loved community tradition.
One Tree Hill Progress Association president Tabatha Pettigrew is pleased to return this part of One Tree Hill's history to the community.
"It was a fun way to honour tradition and bring people of all ages together," Ms Pettigrew said.
"We are proud to have the opportunity to work alongside our community groups to provide a fun and inclusive event for all ages. This event truly captured the spirit of the One Tree Hill community."
This community day was made possible through the strength of our partnership with One Tree Progress Association and the steadfast support of the community. Special appreciation goes to the One Tree Hill Primary School and Playgroup, CFS and Scouts, as well as the One Tree Hill Sports Association, cricket, soccer and tennis clubs, No Eye Deer Farm, Kamcheyenne Limousin Cows and Knotty Ash Miniature Donkeys - for their support and participation.
