Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan visits NTU

NTU President Professor Ho Teck Hua and his leadership team met with Indian Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mr Dharmendra Pradhan and his delegation this morning when he visited Nanyang Technological University. Minister Pradhan also had productive dialogue sessions with close to 100 students and faculty members.

Professor Ho and Minister Pradhan agreed on three key areas of collaboration in education, namely fintech, AI, and sustainability. Online skilling and certification were suggested as platforms to scale up educational opportunities and enhance the employability of Indian workers. Minister Pradhan offered India's massive market as a testbed for scaling NTU's cutting edge technologies to address the country's national priorities.

Minister Pradhan and Professor Ho reiterated their support for the winning students and startup teams from the Singapore-India Hackathon, to be held in July this year as part of the G20 Leaders' Summit in India.

Minister Pradhan - a forward-thinking innovator credited with launching key initiatives pertaining to skilling, reskilling and upskilling the manpower of India - praised NTU, noting that it is a household name amongst the very best students in India. He added that NTU's India Connect programme is a great way for Indian students and leaders to learn best practices from Singapore, including NTU's triple helix model of industry-academia-government partnerships to accelerate research translation.

Minister Pradhan is on a three-day visit to Singapore and met Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong on strengthening the existing cooperation between India and Singapore with a focus on deepening engagements in education and skill development.
