Infrastructure underway

This page provides information on some infrastructure projects underway across the Central Coast this month. Whilst we will continue to update this page as new information becomes available, details may change with short notice due to impacts that can occur to schedules due to weather and other events. More information can be sought on these projects by contacting Council's customer service centre.

Open space and recreation

• Playspace renewals - Several playspaces across the Coast are undergoing replacements to provide safe, engaging and improved play equipment, with accessible features so everyone can play. Playspaces being renewed are located at Ross Park Playspace (Avoca Beach), Woolmers Crescent Playspace (Mardi), Hylton Moore Oval Playspace (East Gosford), Palm Gully Park Playspace (North Avoca), Turo Reserve Playspace (Pretty Beach) and Jirramba Reserve Playspace (Saratoga). Works are due for completion by June 2022. These projects were made possible through $825,000 of funding from the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, with some additional funding provided by local community groups. • Playspace accessibility improvements - Playspaces at The Cottage (Bateau Bay) and Edgewater Park (Bateau Bay) will have rubber softfall replacement, and Runway Park (Woy Woy) playspace and Wallarah Point Peace Park playspace will have additional rubber softfall installed to further improve accessibility. Each playspace will be closed for up to a week (when weather permits) over May and June to allow for the works to be undertaken.
• Tunkuwallin playspace - a shade sail is being installed at this playspace from Monday 6 June and the playspace will be closed for up to three days.
• Umina Tennis Facility upgrades (Peninsula Recreation and Active Lifestyle Precinct upgrade project) - The Umina Tennis Facility is being upgraded with the installation of a new synthetic surface for court five to create a dedicated futsal court, and new roof on the amenities building. Council is redeveloping several areas within the precinct which is being delivered in five stages. Funded by Australian Government. More info.
• Umina Beach, extension of shared pathway to Access Rd (as part of stage 2, Peninsula Recreation and Active Lifestyle Precinct upgrade project) - The Umina Tennis Facility is being upgraded with the installation of a new synthetic surface for court five to create a dedicated futsal court, and new roof on the amenities building. Council is redeveloping several areas within the precinct which is being delivered in five stages. Funded by Australian Government. More info.
• Killarney Vale, Adelaide Oval sports amenities building - construction works are nearing completion to provide a significantly improved and accessible facility. Funded by NSW Government. More info.
• Ettalong, Lemon Grove Netball Courts sports amenities building - construction works are well underway underway to construct a multi-purpose sports amenities building. Funded by Australian Government. More info.
• Upgrade of sporting infrastructure at Central Coast sports grounds - This $11million NSW Government funded project at 16 local sports grounds consists of various sports infrastructure upgrades, such as the installation of sports lighting, drainage and irrigation; which will allow for increased use of the grounds throughout the year and improved safety for players and supporters. • Umina Oval sportsground irrigation renewal - Works are underway to replace ageing irrigation to ensure the turf is efficiently watered, providing a safe and high quality playing surface all year round. This field hosts Umina United Football Club, Central Coast Cricket Southern Spirit Cricket Club, Umina Junior Rugby League and Coast Oztag. Works are due for completion by the end of June.
• Kibble Park - upgrade works are commencing to make Kibble Park in Gosford to make it more accessible for the community. As part of the upgrade the unique sculpture created by John Flakelar will be relocated to Sensory Park, Narara, which is also being upgraded. The remediation and refurbishment work at both Kibble and Sensory parks, is funded in the Council Operational Plan.
• Sensory Park, Narara - existing park infrastructure (pedestrian bridge and paths) is being replaced to provide improved accessibility and functionality and the labyrinth garden will also be reconstructed to include new paths, planting and a central feature.
• Leisure & Community Facilities
• The Entrance Visitor Information Centre - construction has commenced to transform the Visitor Information Centre at The Entrance into an exciting multipurpose facility. The updates will deliver the community an interactive visitor centre, new and modern amenities including 24/7 adult accessible change facility (AACF) and event toilets, improved layout and decking, a dedicated space for local makers and creators, a bookable function area and a purpose-built greenroom. • Macmasters Beach public toilets and change room facilities - current facilities were demolished to make way for new improved and an accessible public amenities building with toilets, shower and change facilities. Construction of the new facility is due for completion by the end July 2022 (weather permitting). This community infrastructure project is funded by NSW Government's Stronger Communities Fund and Central Coast Council. Read more.
• The Entrance, Grant McBride Baths amenities upgrade - We are refurbishing the Grant McBride Baths changerooms and public toilets to provide improved facilitates for ocean pool visitors. Works commenced 27 April 2022, with completion due by the end June 2022 (weather permitting). These facilities will be closed during the construction period, however temporary public toilets and changerooms will be provided on site.
• Woy Woy, Peninsula Leisure Centre's Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning system is being replaced to ensure the pool, creche, courts, gym and others spaces are running at the perfect temperature and this facility has new energy efficiencies incorporated to do our bit for the environment. Works start 26th April 2022 and should finish in October 2022, weather depending. During this period there will be some disruptions. More info.
• Libraries - Toukley, Tuggerah, Kincumber, Lake Haven, Woy Woy and Bateau Bay libraries are undergoing maintenance and improvement works, which require temporary closures at various times in May and June. This may be a great time to check out a library you don't normally visit or try our online or mobile library services. Details of temporary closures.
• Lifeguard Towers, Avoca Beach - a new lifeguard tower is being installed at the southern end near Avoca Surf Life Saving Club and will be completed by the end of June, well in time for the new beach season. The existing Lifeguard Tower, located off Ficus Avenue has undergone repairs and a refurbishment , and is now completed. These 2 aquatic safety infrastructure will support lifeguards and improve safety for the local community and visitors to Avoca Beach.

Environmental Management

Council has commenced a program of maintenance on urban stormwater channels in Wyoming, Woy Woy, Point Claire, Copacabana, Umina, Tascot and Narara to ensure stormwaters run effectively without obstruction.

A range of activities will be carried out, such as aquatic weed control and removal, removal of waterway obstructions such as debris, sediment, litter, and fallen trees, bush regeneration and weed removal, and vegetation maintenance works on the creek or channel banks and corridors.

These works are being undertaken throughout May and June (weather dependant), with limited impact to traffic, pathways or public reserves

• Davistown and St Huberts Island Vacuum Sewer Refurbishment - the Vacuum Sewer Systems at Davistown and St Huberts Island are currently being refurbished to improve the reliability and resilience of the system. The refurbishment works will see key parts replaced in the existing sewer pots together with the installation of a 'pillar' next to the pot. The installation of the pillar will allow the critical components to be located above flood water levels, ensuring that the sewer system remains effective during major weather events. More info.
• Major water and sewer upgrades for Gosford CBD - major infrastructure upgrades continue in Gosford CBD which will support economic and population growth by providing critical new water and sewer infrastructure for the CBD. The project spans 66 projects (43 water projects and 23 sewer projects) with sites stretching from the Gosford waterfront, through the Gosford CBD shopping precinct, to areas in the vicinity of Gosford Hospital and Gosford Golf Course. This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government through the Housing Acceleration Fund (HAF) and part of a $42.5million funding. More info.

Roads & Drainage Works

Council is committed to maintaining the local roads, drainage and footpaths across the Central Coast and manage a road network of over 2,000 kilometre across the region. Intense and continual rainfall over several months has resulted in an unprecedented number of potholes. Council has already filled over 28,000 potholes since the recent weather events started and has increased resources in this area to attend to all repairs as soon as possible. Council strategically plans road and drainage works as part of the annual capital works program and road projects account for 20.4 percent of Council's capital works budget for FY2021-22. Some projects currently underway include:

• Avoca Beach, Ridgway Road upgrade - Road upgrade including the construction of kerb and gutter, footpaths, street drainage and new road pavement (Central Coast Roads Package - Urban Congestion Fund)
• Avoca Beach, Avoca Drive and Burns Street intersection (Burns Street from south end carpark to intersection of Avoca Drive (West) and Burns Street) - Drainage upgrade including the installation of new stormwater pipes and inlet pits
• Berkeley Vale, Lakedge Ave (from Gregory Street to No. 30 Lakedge Avenue) - Road upgrade with drainage, kerb and gutter, footpath and pavement works. Funded by Australian Government (Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program).
• Budgewoi, Walu Avenue (from house number 24 Walu Avenue to Lukela Avenue) Road upgrade with drainage, kerb and gutter, footpath and pavement works
• Copacabana, Del Monte Place upgrade - Road upgrade including the construction of kerb and gutter, footpaths, street drainage and new road pavement. Funded by Australian Government (Central Coast Roads Package - Urban Congestion Fund)
• Davistown, Malinya Road (House Number 119 to Coomal Avenue) - Shared Path Construction. Funded by Australian Government (Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Phase 2B).
• East Gosford, Lushington Street (Henry Parry Drive to Brougham Street) - Road upgrade with drainage, kerb and gutter, footpath and pavement works. Funded by Australian Government (Central Coast Roads Package - Urban Congestion Fund).
• Empire Bay, Shelly Beach Road (Kendall Street to Cul-de-sac) - Road upgrade with drainage, kerb and pavement works. Funded by Australian Government (Central Coast Roads Package - Urban Congestion Fund)
• Erina, Central Coast Highway (Ernest Street to Avoca Drive) - New shared path construction. Funded by Australian/NSW Government (Active Transport Program / Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program 2A)
• Gosford, Racecourse Road (Batley Street North to Showground Road) - New shared path construction. Funded by Australian Government (Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program).
• Long Jetty, intersection of Archbold Parade and Tuggerah Parade - Safety improvements at the intersection of Tuggerah Parade and Tuggerah Parade
• North Avoca, Elgata Street, from View Street to North Avoca Parade. Road upgrade with drainage, kerb and gutter, footpath and pavement works. Funded by Australian Government (Community Development Grants Programme)
• North Avoca, View Street (Tramway Road to House Number 41). Road upgrade including the construction of street drainage, kerb and gutter, footpath and new road pavement. Funded by Australian Government (Community Development Grants Programme)
• Mardi, Old Maitland Road (from house number 427 to house number 343) - Road safety improvements including shoulder widening, high friction pavement and crash barrier. Funded by NSW Government (Safer Roads Program).
• Tuggerawong shared pathway (Tuggerawong Road along the foreshore from February Street to Palmer Street) - new shared path construction
• Umina Beach, Everglades Catchment Drainage Upgrade (from house number Carpenter Street to house number 22 Lovell Street) - Drainage upgrade including the installation of new inlet pits and rehabilitation of existing drainage lines. Funded by Australia Government (Central Coast Roads Package - Urban Congestion Fund).
• Wyong Rd - Vegetation maintenance works are underway to clean up the median strips and roundabouts along Wyong Rd (Mardi to Long Jetty) between 1 May to 3 June (8pm to 4am). Works include the pruning, hedging, weeding, spraying, mulching and rubbish removal on centre medians and roundabouts along Wyong Rd. Traffic will be limited to one lane access each direction on Wyong Rd for varying periods in specific areas from Central Coast Hwy, Long Jetty to M1, Mardi.
