Inquiries into deliberately lit fire at Portland

Police are appealing for information from the public as they investigate a deliberately-lit fire in the state's Central Tablelands.

About 10.40am on Monday (27 January 2020), emergency services were alerted to a fire in bushland on the corner of Laurie Street and Ridge Street, Portland.

Members of the public extinguished the blaze before Fire and Rescue NSW arrived and ensured the blaze was out.

Officers attached to Chifley Police District established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.

As inquiries continue, any witnesses or any motorists who may have been in the area and have dash cam vision, is urged to contact investigators at Lithgow Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
