A Logan-produced tale about a Vietnamese/Australian boy superhero will be pitched to international television executives in Cannes next week.
Sandra Makaresz has travelled to France for the MIPTV Kids Live Action Pitch at the international market for content development and distribution.
The Springwood resident will be pitching her show, Super Huu, next Tuesday (April 9) to television executives including those from Disney, Nickelodeon and the BBC UK.
Ms Makaresz will be pitching the idea which she received Logan City Council funding for through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) with Laura Clelland from Sublimate Entertainment.
That experience led to an invitation to become a member of the RADF committee.
Ms Clelland and Ms Makaresz are the only Australians among five international teams that will pitch at the event.
Ms Makaresz said once she heard about the MIPTV Kids Live Action Pitch she decided to dust off her proposal for the Super Huu series and submit it.
Super Huu is the story of 13-year-old schoolboy Huu Phan who becomes the keeper of an ancient talisman and must win the trust of warrior spirits trapped within it to control the super powers they can give him.
The spirits can be a trouble-making, rude and silly bunch and are intent on making Huu's life hell and taking advantage of him.
Ms Makaresz said the MIPTV Kids Live Action Pitch was part of a huge market held in Cannes every year.
"People anywhere in the world can send their concepts for television shows and Super Huu was one of the top five in the world selected," she said.
Her co-writer Louise Creely is also a former Springwood resident with the pair realising they only lived a street apart when they met at a writing course.
Ms Makaresz said she was looking forward to sharing Super Huu in Cannes.
"I'm feeling very nervous but excited," she said.
"It is a great opportunity out of the blue."
City Lifestyle and Community Committee Chairperson Councillor Steve Swenson said Council was pleased to hear that a project originally developed in the City of Logan for RADF could be turned into a television series.
"We are extremely proud to have Ms Makaresz representing our city on the world stage and wish her all the best for her big pitch next week," he said.
"We hope the television executives will embrace Super Huu."
Cr Swenson said RADF was a partnership between Arts Queensland and Logan City Council.
"RADF provides opportunities for artists and arts practitioners to develop their careers through skills development, cultural tourism/creative projects and regional partnerships," he said.
